Instant Pot Ultra 6 Qt Pressure Cooker
The Instant Pot has become almost as common in our kitchens as mixers and coffee pots. However, it is almost as difficult to choose the one that best suits our needs as it is to select the right everyday china.
When it comes to the Instant Pot, size matters. You want one that is big enough to cook dinners, but you don’t want a monster that will dominate your counter space. For most of us, the 6 qt. size is the right compromise. It isn’t big enough to cook for a large family of 6 or more. However it is perfect for 6 or less. Even if you are only cooking for 2 or 3, you will most likely still wish to cook a nice size roast, or a standard pot of soup. You will not want to modify recipes because the pot is too small.
If you are unsure of what a 6 qt. pot looks like, it is the larger stock pot that is often included in a set of pots and pans. If you consider the size of that stock pot, than you will have a fairly good idea of how much counter or cabinet space an Instant Pot requires.

The Instant Pot Ultra is not just a pressure cooker. It has multiple settings that allow for pressure and non-pressure cooking. You can pressure cook, of course, but you can also rely on the settings option panel to select the correct setting. For instance, onions & celery can be sauteed right in the instant pot before adding the broth, meat, etc. for a pressured cooked soup. Set the unit to saute first. After your veggies are sauteed, cancel saute and reset the unit to pressure cook.

I included very easy to follow instructions that clearly state the steps from saute to cook to release steam & serve. Even if you don’t like Minestrone Soup, the basic instructions included will be useful.
A Instant Pot cookbook can be very helpful. The small cookbook included with the unit is really not a very good place to start, in my opinion. Frankly, if it was all I had to use, I would have returned the unit.
While I change the recipes to suit my families taste, they give me a place to start. It is always good to have the cooking times and settings for each dish, even if I change the seasonings.
Fabulous Functions and Accessories
When the cooking is complete, the Instant Pot Ultra automatically goes into a warming cycle. This is a wonderful function! It keeps dinner warm without burning it.
Once I start serving dinner, I cover the pot with the tempered glass Instant Pot lid, leaving it on warm. The glass lid is also great for storing leftovers in the refrigerator.
The cooking lid, warming lid, and pot are all dishwasher safe! Being able to put the cooker lid in the dishwasher is a huge plus in my book.
